Classful

The months and weeks leading up to the school year’s conclusion can be incredibly busy with many activities in addition to regular school work.

There are exams to prepare for and many out-of-classroom events that students and teachers will want to participate in. Talent shows and recitals are very popular at this time of the year, and it may start to feel like you are preparing for a new event as soon as another one finishes!

Amid all this hustle and bustle, you may feel some sadness as the end of the year draws closer. You will likely have mixed feelings at this time of year, as you will be ready for a break, but you may start to feel that you will miss your students.

Ways you’ll miss your students

Let’s look at how you will miss them as the year draws closer!

  • I will miss the laughter

There are so many ways that students can say the funniest things without even realizing it! I’ll miss their funny stories and all the antics they get up to in the classroom.

  • I will miss how they give me an enthusiastic “Hiiii!” even if I just saw them a moment ago!

Sometimes it’s hard not to feel like a popular celebrity walking through the hallways and around campus. Kids often shout to get our attention and go out of their way to say hello, making our days much brighter.

  • I will miss all of the sweet notes and hand-drawn cards that they give me throughout the year

Whenever a student puts effort into a thoughtful note or card, it’s hard not to love it!

  • I will miss how they always ask me to keep reading aloud to them for a few more minutes.

Read-aloud time is one of my favorite classroom activities for both myself and the students. We have a lot of fun acting out the voices and discussing the plotlines.

  • I will miss watching them grow.

Watching students learn more and become more confident is one of the greatest joys of teaching. When they finally grasp a difficult concept or achieve other important milestones, it’s hard not to feel proud.

  • I will miss hearing about their experiences when they come back after the holidays.

Learning more about the student’s lives outside of school is a great way to understand their experiences and how they affect their learning styles. I love to hear all about how they spend their holidays and what new activities they try during their time off from school.

  • I will miss their infectious excitement.

Watching kids get excited about learning is such a gift! These moments make teaching worthwhile and exciting.

  • I will miss spending time with them and observing all of the ways that they are unique.

My summary

Every class has its personality, and when we begin to get to know the students better individually, it’s interesting to observe how each pupil is unique. It’s hard to let go after an entire year of getting to know each student so well.
