There are a lot of reasons for teachers to feel proud of their profession

Even on your worst day, there is a reason to feel pride:

  • We are instilling values that will last throughout our students’ lives
  • Education can help children improve their future
  • Becoming a well-rounded individual is often the result of having dedicated teachers
  • Our students are the future

A challenging yet rewarding profession

Of course, many challenges come with this job, and sometimes, it may feel like our efforts are in vain. However, it just takes one positive interaction with a student to get out of that funk and realize what we do matters! Observing my students and watching them change and grow throughout the year is always interesting. I take so much pride in their accomplishments and am always looking for ways to improve and better help them.

Be proud of your profession

You have chosen a career that values compassion and integrity, and why you may not ever make millions doing it, the many non-material benefits are real. How many other careers do you have such an influence on people’s lives that they come back years or decades later to thank you for the many ways you have helped them? Not many. Even when dealing with difficult parents or an unsympathetic administrator, the benefits of a teaching career are always there! Teaching allows me to affect the world in a substantial and fulfilling way. I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Our fellow teachers are inspiring

We get to be both mentors and mentees, and we can take comfort in knowing our colleagues know what it’s like to have a terrible day. There are so many ways that we can support one another during the challenges and celebrate the victories together. When I started to form closer bonds with my fellow teachers, my outlook changed almost overnight. These relationships are so important that I can’t believe I could survive without them.

We can work in an environment that doesn’t always feel like work. When we are out of school, it’s great to hear how much we were missed when we got back! Our profession is unique in so many ways that most of us had no idea what it would be like until our first experience at the front of the class.

Knowing that our student’s parents have entrusted us with their children’s education is a lot of responsibility, but it is also a point of pride. We also get to celebrate the fact that we are educating members of all different backgrounds and helping them determine the professional outcomes of their lives.

I take enormous pride in the fact that my efforts are helping to shape the future of our world!

Remember these words on your most difficult days

We can’t just focus on how we feel, are let down, or are taken for granted. There are too many positive attributes to focus on.
