I currently teach pre-K at a public school and this will be my second year in pre-k. I previously taught kindergarten for 6 years and was a teacher assistant for 8 1/2 years. I teach at a title 1 school where three-fourths of the students are from low income households. There are many different cultures and ethiniticies at our school. The 2019-2020 will be the second year our school district has offered pre-k at select schools.
Many of the students come with out snacks so I purchase snacks for students because it is a long day between breakfast and lunch. I have purchased underwear, socks, and clothes throughout the years for students. I also purchase school supplies and other items for my classroom.
The donation will allow me to purchase manipulatives for the students to sort, count, and develop small motor skills. Manipulatives help students learn concepts by providing a hands on technique. I will also purchase STEM items. The items will provide hands-on relevant learning activities that will allow students to discover, explore, and apply critical thinking skills as they play. Students come into the classroom ready to learn new things so purchasing items that allow for hand on relevant play will help them to become doers and inventors.
