Teaching children ways to have a say in their education while also instilling confidence in themselves and exploring science and mathematics through hands on educational activities that promote teamwork and a sense of accomplishment.
The middle school students at AHA are exposed to both mathematical and scientific concepts through a blend of traditional academics in the classroom and physical experience using our STEM garden and AHA Hiking Club. This variety of approaches and outlets gives each child a chance to find a connection to these subjects that aligns with their personal interests. In doing so it is intended to create a passion for science and math that students understand on an intrinsic level because it is part of their every day experience. I am a former NPS Park Ranger and Field Biologist who happens to really enjoy teaching math as well! I try to let each student find their own connection to the subjects and also to make sure that all students understand that not all subjects come easily to all people. The achievement is in the doing of things you initially considered out of reach. The satisfaction is in the accomplishment based on practice.
