Description
This course explores the dramatic transformations that shaped our modern world from 1500 to today (it is a continuation of Hist 100-1). Students will trace the rise and fall of empires, the spread of global trade networks, and the cultural encounters that reshaped societies across continents. Unit 1 covers the basic concepts of history and approaches to world history, the rise of the modern era, and a focus on the power and wealth of eastern empires. This approach decenters world history from Eurocentric perspectives. This class works well as a supplement for learning during the summer, an aid for understanding a current course, homeschooling, or people interested in learning. Each unit will be offered in three to four class segments as separate, smaller, low-cost courses.
