I have been a Chicago public school teacher for over 15 years. I love working with primary grade students. My favorite school age group are kindergarten up till third grade. I have worked with other students up to sixth grade. However, I personally see more growth academically with smaller children. I feel that they are so inquisitive and love learning new things. I feel that they are an empty sponge and they just observed everything that I can teach them. However, I find it very disheartening when I see a child so willing to learn and the parent can't or won't provide the necessary tools for this children to be successful. I buy so many school supplies for my students. Even my husband gets made at me because his we are also financially struggling. However I want my students to have all the school supplies that they need. It just makes it easier for me. I don't have to keep asking parents for supplies that I know they are not going to get. To me if you did not dents you child with the supplies that we asked for it could be two reasons. One they can not afford it or they are assuming that hey school is will give to them. The reality is that that all cps school that are on low income neighborhoods are the least funded. Patent don't know how much of our teacher salary is spent on each student in my class and many other classrooms. Let me end by saying any donations such as a leveled library, flexible seating for independent reading and rugs are needed in my classroom. We don't have text books their for I copy a lot of their work so copy paper is like gold . Thank you for reading this and taking an untest in helping our low income students.
