About
I am a Spanish teacher at Overbrook, High School,NJ. I want to show my students how important is to know the World in order to appreciate more what we have here in the USA.
It is not only to learn grammar and how to say things to people in another language, but also to understand their background, their heritage, their differences that are not as different as ours.
Moreover, my students are from a low income community and for them to just go to NYC or to Washington, it is not in their priority list, imagine them thinking about going abroad? Their World knowledge is so limited that they are amazed when I present pictures of other countries. I want to keep doing that and take them first to local places and then one day abroad.
I was born in Puerto Rico, I come from a family of five, in which all of my siblings went to college, because my mother work at the University of Puerto Rico. She was one of the first Porto rican professors at that institution.
I have a Masters in communications and life made me become a teacher, I needed to be with my two wonderful children. Therefore, I obtained my credentials to be a certified teacher in Spanish and have time to take care of them. I have about 20 years working at different levels.
