Welcome to the right side of my brain.
My name is Jennifer York. I am married to my best friend and have two amazing boys Mason and Preston. We have a Boston Terrier, Trixie and my Fancy Rat, Toffee. I am an Art teacher for grades K-5th at both Oak Forest and Whispering Pines Elementary. What more could I need? Well, I love to do ANYTHING relating to art or crafting. I also like to read, travel, swim and continuously keep learning about Art and teaching.
With so many possibilities in education, people always ask me, why did I choose Art? I have had a love of art as long as I can remember. My parents said I was always creating something, and to this day I still do.
I believe that Art is an invaluable experience for students of any age. Art curriculum builds confidence, promotes self-esteem, self-reflection, builds both sides of the brain, self-expression, builds skills in academics, creates problem solvers, develops hand-eye coordination, stimulates perception, and the students become more aware of the space around them. I could list more reasons why everyone needs art in their lives, but, we would be here indefinitely.
As an educator, I am also a lifelong learner and I am always looking for ways to develop my own personal skills, as well as, my students. I teach Art because I have always been passionate about Art and hopefully inspire my students to become as passionate about Art as I am.
