About
I began teaching nearly 20 years ago. I have been blessed to get paid to play with, teach and learn from little people nearly half of my life! I taught kindergarten for a handful of years and then took a 'temporary job" teaching PreK in a daycare and preschool that lasted more than 10 years.
I currently am in my fifth year teaching PreK at and am co-administrator of the YWCA of Cleveland's Early Learning Center. We are a TRAUMA INFORMED EARLY LEARNING CENTER.
'YWCA has incorporated a therapeutic approach and and a two generational model into its Early Learning Center model to better serve children age three to five experiencing homelessness or similar adverse experiences. This innovative trauma-informed model will assess and identify the social-emotional needs of the children, work with families to create goals and case plans, prevent re-occurrence of homelessness, and empower families to achieve and maintain the highest level of self-sufficiency."
I work with wonderful, resilient little people who have taught me more about myself and teaching in the past five years than I have taught them. They don't have all of the benefits and joys of a warm home, new clothes, learning materials, books and toys to play with and still they come to school excited to learn and full of hugs!
My kids are ready for more. They need more. We are a nonprofit organization and there isn't the funding for all of the extras they need and deserve. My PreK kids are mostly five and in need of more challenging Gross motor activities, more STEM materials, more advanced learning toys and more multicultural books and materials.
Our playground is going to be out of commission for most of the summer as it's being torn down and a new one being built. I would love to be able to buy outdoor gross motor materials and outdoor learning materials for them. I would love to buy more relevant books for them.
At the end of the day I just want to be able to do more and give more to my kids! Anything you are willing to do to help us would be appreciated.
