I routinely spend some of my own money bringing useful, interesting, and fun resources into my classroom. I've created this fundraiser in the hopes of creating a fund from which I can draw when I find something else to bring into my classroom. I have a vision for our math classroom and bringing in more hands-on experiential learning opportunities. Our current supplies, resources, and technology needs an overhaul. My goal is to raise $750 which will allocate $500 for the 2023-2024 school year and $250 for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year.
Previously, I taught college mathematics at Montana State University where my teaching was almost entirely lecture-based. At Bozeman Field School, and at any high school, lessons cannot be 100% lecture, not even 50%. This means I need a lot of activities to keep students engaged and learning.
Teaching five courses in addition to our other responsibilities keeps me very busy. I routinely spend money buying premade ready to use activities. This saves me a lot of time and allows me to focus more of my efforts engaging with my students. As time wears on, I will have amassed a library of resources & activities to rotate and the time saved can be used to create my own or tweak existing ones, helping to make the experience as rewarding, informative, and engaging as possible.
It's important to me to be fully transparent here: Bozeman Field School, its administration and board of directors, are extremely supportive of its teachers and our endeavors. Reimbursement of most things, if not all, is available provided it does not exceed our department's allocated resource/supply budget.
Since all budgets are finite, the items, experiences, supplies, and resources that cost the most, are typically not pursued by teachers as often compared to those more affordable. The goal of this fundraiser is to make the math department's budget a little less finite.
