IF IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE 1%, THEN IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ALL CHILDREN EVERYWHERE!
Hi! My name is Alexia Lewis, and I'm an arts practitioner and former teacher who has developed a fun cursive workshop for children ages 10 - 12 who were affected by the Eaton Wildfire Disaster in 2025.
I've launched this pilot because I care deeply about literacy and arts education for our youth. Plus, I understand the power of cursive writing to improve eye-hand coordination, and journaling to improve positive mental health outcomes. Unfortunately, cursive has been removed from curricula all over our nation. Our children deserve much better than this, and we must show up for them.
I'm excited and humbled that the Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena is allowing me to facilitate this workshop with their kids this June and July. They are able to provide many materials for all the kids this summer, but there's still more needed so that these workshops can be a true success with a long-lasting impact. Your donation to this fundraiser will cover the following:
- custom keepsake journals and bookmarks gifted to participants to practice with after the summer
- keepsake writing kits with pens, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners gifted to participants so that they'll always have what they need
- custom keepsake tote bags for participants to carry their new writing supplies
- my transportation costs to and from the Boys and Girls Club Slavik location in Pasadena (I'm coming from the Los Feliz area)
- the many hours I've put into professional development, curriculum development, facilitation, and admin work
- time that I can use to study the feasibility of expanding this program
***I'm aiming for full funding by June 15th***
