About
I teach a vibrant, hardworking group of early learners in a Title I bilingual Spanish kindergarten classroom. My students are doing something amazing: learning to read in two languages at the same time!
This year, our students made tremendous growth in Spanish reading and math. Now, one of our next goals is to strengthen their foundation in English reading. English phonics can be tricky for young bilingual learners because letters and letter combinations often change their sounds. Without a consistent English phonics curriculum, I often gather and create resources on my own to help students make sense of these patterns.
I am raising funds to purchase two Secret Stories Space Saver Class Kits, one for each bilingual kindergarten classroom. These materials will immediately support two classrooms, reaching about 50 students this school year.
Secret Stories turns tricky English phonics patterns into memorable stories, songs, visuals, and gestures that students can understand and remember. This playful approach helps English phonics feel more logical, fun, and accessible.
The Space Saver kits are also a good fit because our classroom wall space is shared between Spanish and English instructional materials. These smaller kits will allow us to display the phonics 'secrets" students need without overwhelming our walls.
With these materials, my students will have a clear, visual bridge to help them decode English words with more confidence. Your donation will directly support bilingual kindergarten students as they grow as readers and writers in both languages.
