Hello,
I work for a title 1 school on Long Island, New York which a is federal education program that supports low income students throughout the nation. Our demographics in the district vary but this particular school is made up of students from the 5th highest poverty location on Long Island (Suffolk County) and the overall 9th highest poverty town on Long Island (Suffolk County).
These children have amazing mathematics and creation skills and I'd like to bring out those skills to help them prepare for careers in the #1 sector of job openings in the world.
Although reading and writing is below par, these students can succeed in life with the skills they are good at and help their families and the neighborhood improve over time rather than potentially get mixed up in the 'wrong crowds.'
The Sphero BOLT Power Pack + Sphero Code Mat allows me the opportunity to present coding (STEM) to students at the earliest age when the district, community, and school do not have the funding to afford opportunities like this.
There are also infinite ways to incorporate coding into math lessons, social study lessons, and more!
