There’s not a day that I don’t review the effects of the day’s lessons.

I asked myself; did I accomplish what I wanted and then centered my thoughts on each student. If I made it enjoyable enough to help students become aware of their natural strengths and interests, my enthusiasm to teach soars.

Throughout the day, I think about using my passion for teaching and applying my talents to inspire students and stick to the curriculum. Turns out that by combining a particular lesson, like learning colors and drawing activities, I can accomplish both tasks. By watching how students use the colors to create their vision, I learn more about each student’s attentiveness and uniqueness. It’s information that inspires the development of my future classroom lessons.

When students come from different ethnic and educational backgrounds, the challenge is to make the lesson interesting enough for both passive and active students. My students inspire me to teach using classroom projects that bring the class together, teaching them to interact with each other and share their differences. Amazingly, they always seem to find similarities without losing sight of their individuality.

I teach to help each student achieve what they are capable of accomplishing. How I teach is based on the student’s needs and curiosity. Here are some inspirational experiences that keep me in the classroom year after year.

Learning

Students come in all sizes, shapes, and temperaments; some complaint about doing the work, while others know they need help and guidance to learn. Some have an unlimited desire to learn. They not only challenge me to create more demanding lessons, but they also rely on me to raise the bar. Two skills that help my students to focus on the classroom instructions and curb distractions include:

  • Identifying the lesson goals
  • Consistency

Unleashing Creativeness

Often, students raise their sights on writing skills through storytelling and pictures. Sometimes, I imagine these students becoming great authors, artists, or publishers. Looking back, I marvel at how far some have come through the school year.

As a teacher, these students inspire me to develop lessons that create a vivid image of tomorrow’s possibilities that could motivate students to learn more. Perhaps without a teacher’s intervention, they may never have discovered or developed these skills. It brings me back to developing the next day’s classroom agenda.

  • Create a plan
  • Implement deadlines

Time-Honored Memoirs

When I run into past students, they always stop and say hello. It never fails – they make sure to thank me for helping them. These meetings confirm that I was right about my career choice – how inspiring is that? We made incremental gains each day, continuously moving forward and experiencing small wins that created huge gains over time.

It was then that I realized how good it feels to be a teacher and that I helped a student grow into an amazing adult using these educational tools:

  • Monitor progress
  • Add accountability

Turning Dreams into Reality

What teacher doesn’t dream about making a student’s dream come true? Sometimes, a student leaves a thank you note for helping them through a struggle at school. I’ve even gotten letters from parents thanking me for making a difference in their child’s life. I realized at that moment that I was able to help a student reach their full potential. At the end of the day, I wonder whose life I will help change for the better tomorrow.
