My story... Well, I grew up in a small place called Lenoir in North Carolina. When I was little all I ever wanted to be was a teacher! My friends and I would play "school" and I had to be the teacher every time! As I grew up, my dream to become a teacher never faded. So, once the time came for college, I attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) to get a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education. During my time at UNCG, in both lectures about the wonders of education and in my internships, I fell more and more in love with teaching. Standing in front of (or sitting on the floor in the middle of) a class full of kids, watching their faces light up as the "light bulb" comes on for them as I teach them a new strategy to work out a math problem or introduce them to a new vowel team, is the most rewarding thing that I have witnessed so far in my life. Throughout my time in student teaching, I taught students who were homeless, hungry, and just down-right pitiful. Knowing that these students were coming into school looking for consistency and love drove me to show up each and everyday with a smile and a hug for each and every one of my students. One of my favorite parts of being a teacher has been the relationships that I have been able to build with my students. One of my main priorities when meeting a new group of students is to make sure that I get to know each student and let each student know that they are loved and accepted in my classroom.
My background of playing "school" as a kid, participating in internships, lectures and student teaching at UNCG has all led me to this moment. I have accepted a position in a first grade classroom in Thomasville, NC which is what has led me here. Setting up and starting out as a first year teacher is an expensive thing to do. So, I am reaching to YOU! Any and everyone who is willing and able to donate ANY about to help me get started on my classroom!!!
