You get 2 pdf download patterns, 1 for sewing, 1 for a no sew project. The difference between the 2, besides being sewn versus not sewn, is that no sew frame uses more printable interfacing panels, another length of ribbon, and less paper board used for the removable mat board or cardboard easel back & strut leg sizes. They both use the same amount of fabric and the same size acid free sheet protector protective clear photo sleeve.

Caring for the frame: Just take out the photo and its protective sleeve, an acid free sheet protector page cut to the size of the photo with a paper trimmer, and the easel back & and strut leg boards, cut from acid free mat board or cardboard, that slide out of their pockets, that you will make, as well, then place the fabric frame in a lingerie bag, in the washer in a cold, delicate wash, no fabric softener, mild detergent like Woolite or WoolWash from Dollar tree, and stand or lay flat on a towel to air dry.

I decided to make my frames washable, out of purpose, honestly. I started by making frames out of fabric, covering mat board panel parts, and those patterns are available in my store. And the reason I created those was because of the lack of quality fabric covered board picture frames out in the market. I worked in a department store, and one of my many jobs was to put the frames back into their boxes, in the stationery department - I also worked in China / tabletop, and linens. I found that the turn buttons would pop off, glass broke, easel backs with connected strut legs fell apart. I had bought a hinge and hanger press, and I could make frames from fabric, Ultrahold fabric adhesive, mat board, & ribbon, but ...the hand press broke. Luckily, the year before it broke, I created / invented, a fabric covered mat board structure, that used the same 4 elements / supplies, and didn't need the metal hinge & hangers, and all of the supplies could be bought at craft stores, art supply, stationery, and scrapbook stores, plus by then, a woman, Pam, asked me if I had patterns for my frames. So, I began to make the pattern downloads. Within a year, by 2006, I decided that with the same supplies, but by re-configuring the amount of the supplies, and re-designing the structure, I could make a washable, sewn, & no sew (for crafters who don't sew), a fabric frame.

Sewing pattern download has 13 pages, showing the white frame in the photos, using contrasting black thread, to see stitch lines:

6 pages of patterns to print onto HeatnBond Lite or Ultrahold or HeatBondLite EZ Sheets - sold at Joann, Walmart, Thermowebonline, and Amazon, then iron onto the back of 6 of the 10 fabric panels, to sew together to make 6 fabric panel parts.

Ribbon connects the bottom right corner of the strut leg pocket to the easel back,

A quality hole puncher to make holes, and thread ribbon through the holes or hang on the wall with the holes.

The photo pocket is made by sewing panels 2 & 3, the 2nd inside frame front border and frame middle panels together, sewing along the "U" shaped or 3 sided line, marked on the panels with a stitch line ahead of sewing them together along the stitch or marked line, and this will hold the photo in place.

The "no sew", washable, frame pattern has 19 pages, with 10 printable HeatnBond interfacing patterns, 2 paper patterns to transfer to the boards, photo & text, step by step instructions, supply list, legends or the parts, and more. Again, if you want to sew this frame, just use HeatnBond Lite, possibly HeatnBond Lite EZ Print, which both sides of each sheet has paper backing, giving them more structure to run through your inkjet printer. Then just sew the sides of the frame, shown in the sewing pattern, making sure to leave an opening for the photo pocket, the easel back board, and the strut leg board, to slide in and out.

This pattern is actually better to use for sewing, because you are using the ribbon to connect panels 2 & 3 to make the photo pocket, versus using the sewing machine to connect the 2, to make the photo pocket. You can use the hole punching pattern layout from the no sew project on the sewing project pattern panels, if that makes it easier. You're choice.

3/4 to 1 1/2 yard of fabric depending on type of frame made, and motif element sizes in repeat and layout of fabric

Therm o Web HeatnBond Lite or Ultrahold iron on interfacing 5 1/4 yard roll, or 10 sheet letter size pack of EZ Print HeatnBond Lite

ribbon length 9" long by 1" wide, for no sew frame another length of ribbon 5 feet long by 1/8" wide

Removable easel back and strut leg boards, that slide out of their pocket - patterns provided, to cut out of mat board or cardboard, sold in 20x30 & 32x40 inch boards, at Michaels or any art supply stores - order online and pick up in store at Michaels

Now, you can sew the frame with the no sew pattern, just make sure to use the HeatnBond Lite interfacing, versus the Ultrahold interfacing, as the Lite won't gum up on your machine needle, as the Ultrahold "may" do, but only after many sewing projects. I've used the Ultrahold in sewing, where I sometimes have to stop, and take a straight pin and pick of some of the dry adhesive, but not often. Plus with Ultrahold, you can print the patterns directly onto the paper backing of of it, using your inkjet printer. You can print onto the HeatnBond Lite, but I would do it on a cool day, or less humid day, in the morning, or later at night, as the paper backing rolls. I take the HeatnBond Lite, as I do with the Ultrahold, cut letter size sheets from the 5 1/4 yard roll, gently fold the sheet vertically, but only pinch at the top and bottom, and continue to do this, bringing in the corners to the fold pinches across the top and bottom, until the sheet counter rolls in the opposite direction that it did on the roll. This, plus laying it between books helps to flatten the sheets.

HeatnBond interfacing paper back printable patterns and board patterns included, along with photo & text step by step instructions, as well as a photo legend of all the parts, for both frame types.

1-2 hour prep and assemble time.

My customer had me take her late husband's neckties, and turn them into photo frames, and then she had her friend, President Clinton, sign the photos that went into the frames, and she gave them as Christmas gifts to family.
