Description
Have fun reviewing the Geometry, Measurement, and Data standards with this Risk Review game.
Teacher Instructions
This game will be 'played" in presentation mode.
Start by having the Risk Game Slide 1 displayed in presentation mode.
I am cheesy when it comes to introducing activities, so with this one I would have Old Style Organ Music playing as the students enter the classroom. Here is a link in case you like my cheese!
To move through the questions, simply click.
Here is the process:
Slide 1 - Go over the Game Instructions (below)
Click when ready (goes to Slide 2)
Slide 2 - Example Question
Have students raise their answer choice (A,B,C,D)
Click to reveal the answer (yellow star will appear on the letter)
Have students raise their reward choice (safe or risk)
Click when ready (goes to Slide 3)
Slide 3 - Example rewards for safe and risk
Here is a video showing the process.
Game Instructions
Have the students find a partner.
Instruct the students:
'You will be reviewing what we've covered in our Geometry, Measurement and Data standards by competing against each other in the Risk Game. As an added bonus, your points will be in decimal format so you will be getting practice adding and subtracting decimals, as well! You will need a sheet of paper and pencil."
'You and your partner will complete the problem displayed on the board. When I say go, you will hold up your answer choice (A,B,C). DO NOT show your answer card until I say go." (Show a sample of the cards)
'If you answer correctly, you and your partner will decide whether to select the 'safe" reward or the 'risk" reward. The 'safe" reward is ALWAYS a positive number. It could be as small as 1 or as large as 50. The 'risk" reward is exactly as it sounds. It is a risk. You're taking a risk that it will be better than the 'safe" reward. The risk reward could be positive or negative points. Black reward points mean you add. Red reward points mean you subtract. DO NOT hold up your reward choice (safe or risk) until I say go."
'After receiving your reward, record it on your scorecard and keep a running total. The partner team with the most points wins."
'Each team will start with 50 points."
'Let's look at an example so you can see how it works."
Demonstrate with Slides 2 and 3.
