Description
UPDATED: This activity has been updated to reflect the transition to the new alignment for 8th Science this year (2022-2023). I left the old alignment in the folder.
This activity was designed to be something different and engaging for the students and not just a 'worksheet" review. It is fairly simple and hugely flexible to use as you see fit. You can use it as is (with a few prep details before you share with the students) or expand it to be a 'game" with rewards (EX: complete a level early, pick your seat for the day) or as a class challenge or simply to use as a whole class activity. This activity is aligned to the current 8th Science standards to be assessed this year and next (Spring 2021 and 2022).
Standards included in the 2020 activity:
PS 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 4.1, 4.3
LS 1.4, 1.5, 3.1, 3.2, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6
ESS 1.1, 1.2, 1.3
Standards included in the 2014 activity:
PS 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3
LS 1.7, 4.1, 4.2
ESS 1.4, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, 3.2, 3.4
There are 10 'levels" to complete. Each level has overview information for the standard(s) in the form of text, short videos, interactives, and an assessment (practice state test questions). To successfully complete the activity, students must decode the secret message correctly.
