Description
A Dating Curriculum for Teens
A Dating Curriculum for Teens is a comprehensive curriculum for teens grades 7 through 12. Some sections may also be appropriate for grades 5 through 6, however. You will want to look through the curriculum and choose those sections you feel are most appropriate for your youngest students.
The curriculum is suitable for use in school settings, such as counseling or health classes. It is also suitable for use in community or church settings. The curriculum doesn't address abstinence, sexual behaviors or birth control. You will want to add these to the curriculum if they are important to you in addressing dating behaviors.
The curriculum consists of eight units addressing:
Flirting and Sexual Harassment: Which is It? - Includes a Classroom PowerPoint Game, Handouts, discussion guide, opportunity to use Dear Dr. Date writing exercise
Defining Successful Dating: What is Dating Anyway? - Includes Self-Discovery Handout, Reading for self-test, discussion guide
Dating Violence: Physical, Emotional and Psychological - Learning about and Identifying Dating Violence - Includes Self-Discovery Handout, Reading for self-test, discussion guide
Defining Individual Values Teens May Seek in a Partner; What Kind of Partner Do They Want to Be? - Includes Self-Discovery Handout, Reading for self-test, discussion guide
How to Successfully Break-Up: Both How to Successfully Break-Up and What to Do When Someone Breaks It Off - Includes Student Brochure/Handout, Role Play, discussion guide
Dear Dr. Date: An opportunity for students and/or experts to answer questions about dating problems students have faced in the past " Students use the information they've learned to help others in a 'Dear Abby" type format. This is unit also provides an opportunity for expert guidance if so desired.
Parent Guides: 'Helping Your Teen Have Healthy Dating Relationships" and 'Dating Violence: Information for Parent" -
Total Pages: 52 - Over 110 including PowerPoint Game. Each unit begins with a Unit Page. The Unit Page includes the Unit Title, followed by the
amount of time activity will take, the materials used and the unit objectives. The next
section heading on the Unit Page is 'Activity" followed by an outline of unit activities, how
these are performed, and any deviations you may find useful depending on your students
or setting. The final Unit Page heading is titled, 'Making Sense of It All". In this section
you will find discussion questions and other information useful in working with your
students in this unit. The Unit Page is followed by materials for that unit, including any
answer keys.
These are reproducibles. They are for you and your students ONLY! Make copies of the reading materials for hand-outs to your students. Make copies of the self-tests for your students. Make copies of the parent guides as hand-outs to your student's parents. PLEASE let your parents, and other teachers, staff, counselors and community members know that they can easily purchase this curriculum on line at a discount. That is my simple request. Thank you! Katherine Kocs, M.S.W.
