This easy to implement weeklong lesson includes everything you need to teach, practice and assess contractions with will. This is a low-prep resource, containing a full lesson outline for 5 days with suggested activities for whole group and independent work, as well as all the materials, practice pages and assessments you will need to successfully teach your students how to read, write and understand these contractions.
Here's what's included:
- Suggested lesson outline for 5 days (a detailed explanation of what you should do in whole group and what your students should do as independent practice)
- Poster of contractions with will (2 versions)
- 8 pages of printable contraction cards
- 6 worksheets (matching, writing, maze passage, fill in the blank sentences)
- 2 assessments
- Answer keys
Topics covered:
- 7 contractions with the word will (I'll, you'll, he'll, she'll, it'll, we'll, they'll)
- Reading and writing contractions
- Understanding contractions in context
How to use this:
- Use the poster to model for your students how to make a contraction with 'will', which letters to omit, and where to put the apostrophe.
- Use the printable cards to make an anchor chart with your class.
- Use the printable cards in small group for matching activities.
- Do the suggested whole group activities and games each day during your mini-lesson.
- Assign students one of the worksheets to complete each day for independent work.
- Use the two assessments to check for understanding at the end of the week. You may choose to use the first assessment on Thursday as a practice test and the other assessment on Friday as the test. Or, save the second assessment for students who to need to re-take it.
