Description

Do you want choices in designing YOUR novel unit on Robert Louis Stevenson's novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?

This novel unit on The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde provides opportunities for you to choose the activities and assessments that are the best fit for your students. The page layouts are clean and uncluttered to ease anxious or distractible students.

1.Introducing the Novel: I have included a Google Slides™️ presentation of the notes for you to use.

2.Reading the Novel: Because every year is different, I have provided FIVE options for what your students may do while reading the novel. Some classes need more structure provided by the Reading Questions. Others need choice, so the Double Entry Journal or Daily Reading Log may serve their needs. The Chapter Summary Chart is good for teaching students how to summarize and discern significant passages. Finally, I included the Reader Response Questions for Daily Journal Entries or Tickets out the Door for you to assess comprehension informally.

3.Chapter Activities: Each chapter has a different activity for students to practice their analysis skills on the text itself or multimedia texts like songs and an NPR segment that connect with the novel. These may be completed with different chapters than suggested. The Ch. 2 Utterson Case File activity works best while reading Chapter 2 because the character is chasing down Hyde. The Hyde Wanted Poster with Chapter 4 works best after reading this chapter because the next-to-last paragraph mentions their needing playbills (wanted posters) because they have no pictures of Hyde.

4.Chapter Quizzes & CRQ's: The quizzes are designed to assess whether the students read, and the CRQ's give them writing practice based on the text. A rubric and answer keys are provided.

5. Final Test: You have two options for administering the test: Digital and Printable. The digital format includes a self-grading test in Google Forms, and an editable printable test in Google Docs.

Thanks for trying this with your students!
