Description

Text-based lesson plan, fuel for actual instruction and discussion. I have pioneered the "Rock Drill" method of instruction, starting with broader terms (the broad part of a drill) and progressing toward more specific concepts (the narrow part of a drill). When you start with broad terms, and then "drill" toward the goal, vocabulary and concepts you learn along the way are little bits of treasure. All the necessary concepts to learn the key terms are the progression of the drill.

This lesson explores three key concepts: Specialization, Costs/Benefits, and Opportunity Costs. This is supplemented with a literary assignment (not included) - this helps with children that need coaching on how to transition to other umbrellas of information. One of these changes of subject is included in the lesson plan: there is also a comprehensive intro to one aspect of North American Colonization, which is Puritans. The method of discussing the Puritans is part of a larger scheme of using a detail (the Puritans) to help inject life into factual information about the colonies.
