Description
Middle schoolers need lots of help with argumentative essay writing. Centers are the way to go! Use these 5 printable writing revision centers when your kids have an essay draft complete but need help with revisions. This can be used with any type of argumentative essay...opinion, literary, etc.
Here is what is included:
✅Essay structure center
✅Citations center
✅Text evidence center
✅Varied sentence structure center
✅Vocabulary builder center
✅Teacher directions
Note: I have included a black & white version and a color version of each center.
You will need:
✅Printed copies of each center
✅Markers/crayons/pencils
✅Each student needs a completed draft of an essay BEFORE beginning the centers
Here is what I recommend :
⭐The center on essay structure is editable. Change anything you'd like before printing. I have a basic essay structure in there, but you might like to make changes.
⭐Have kids write their first draft of their essay. If you need help with this, I have complete units for literary analysis and anopinion essay. I also have individual essay writing mini lessons that might help. Take a look if needed.
⭐Split your class up into groups. I personally always have kids working with a partner throughout the unit. Then, I put two pairs together for a group of 4. I move my desks into tables of 4 and put all the materials out on the tables. (This assumes you have 20 students, giving you 5 tables for 5 centers; obviously, adjust for your classes' needs.)
⭐Then, I rotate the kids around, giving them about 20-30 minutes in each center. I usually spend 2-3 days on centers.
⭐You can rotate around the room and assist as needed.
⭐These centers are perfect for when you are getting observed. It takes the pressure off of you and has the kids active. You can meet with individual kids, small groups, or just rotate around with a clipboard and check off skills or take notes.
⭐Be sure that students put any improvements that they made (as a result of completing the center activities) into their essays.
