Description

This is a fun ethos, pathos, logos group project that you and your students will love! During this activity, students will review ethos, pathos, logos through group discussion and by watching a humorous commercial. Next, students will be placed in groups and they must work together to create a commercial script of their own where they sell an object provided by the teacher. They participate in a brainstorm activity with their peers, then craft the script, and finally present it to the class. This is one of my students' favorite activities, because they love how creative they get to be with their group members. You will love this activity because it is highly structured so that students accomplish rigorous tasks while having fun. If you are in the middle of an ethos, pathos, logos unit and need a fun and exciting activity to liven up the unit, then this lesson will fit great into your classroom. I guarantee that you and your students will share a lot of laughs as students present their commercials to the class. What I love about this activity is that students not only gain a better understanding of Aristotle's rhetorical appeals, but they also practice public speaking skills in a low stress environment

Slideshow:

Slideshow includes engaging content, multimedia clips, and step-by-step instruction for ease of implementation. Slides are highly visual and structured to support all learners. Slides include tips & instructions from me to support both teacher and students.

Group Commercial Script:

This assignment was made on Google docs. and can be pushed to Google Classroom or shared digitally with a link. Completing this activity digitally allows multiple students (groups) to work together at the same time. This is why this product was intended to be completed digitally. However, No Chromebooks? No Problem The script is spaced out printer friendly and can be completed by hand if you do not have access to technology.

The script has 5 different steps that students complete in a group and is structured to hold all students accountable to fill it out TOGETHER. Students will not be able to just sit back and let the rest of the group do the work. The 5 steps include a group brainstorm activity, crafting of the script, and completing a rationale to reflect on their learning.

Exit Ticket:

The exit ticket has students reflect on their peers presentations and their learning overall. The ticket can be completed during the group presentations to hold all students accountable during the presentations.

WHY STUDENTS LVOE THIS ACTIVITY...

Students have some much fun with the creativity that goes into crafting a commercial and pitching it to the class.
Students enjoy working together to come up with a creative pitch.

WHY TEACHERS LOVE THIS ACTIVITY...

You will love the structure of the assignment. Students must thoughtfully craft their pitch using all three rhetorical appeals.
Instructions are very straight forward, so that you can be hands off to let students problem solve as a group.
Students complete a rationale to demonstrate their understanding of the rhetorical appeals they create.
You will love watching students present their commercial to the class. They get so into the sales role!
