Description
This unit finishes with a lab where students actually measure waves they make with Slinky. For this I had 10 ft teachers Slinky, but you can use regular 6 ft ones. Metal Slinky recommended.
This full unit covers all the physics of sound and light waves! Plenty of math practice problems, and manipulative to help you understand the wave equations! This includes the assessment at the end to check your knowledge! When you're finished you can kick back with a classic MythBusters Episode!
Sound is a hard concept to understand, but using Slinky are a great way to model sound waves.
The manipulative is a great way for students to quickly find the correct formula for wave speed, frequency, and wavelength.
To finish the lab I have a video based test off the MythBusters, from their "Brown Note" episode. You can use this test as a pre or post unit assessment.
