Literary Analysis Essay Unit | Writing Lessons, Practice Activities, Assessment
$24.99
If your students are struggling with writing, look no further. This complete unit has everything you will need to thoroughly teach your middle school students a literary analysis essay with a focus on character traits. Daily, editable lesson plans give you step-by-step instructions. A mentor essay is included. By the end, students will have a polished essay and the knowledge of essay writing in general.
This all in one unit includes:
✅Main slideshow that is linked with lessons, activities, and due dates
✅10 mini lessons to teach skills and guide students to improve their essays
✅16 Editable lesson plans - one for each day with step-by-step instructions for you
✅"Finish the Essay" assignment for pre-assessment (complete with 2 paragraphs to start students on the right track)
✅Activities show students how to properly cite text evidence with examples
✅An editble rubric grading checklist for streamlined grading
Here is what I recommend for a smooth, organized unit:
⭐️Since this is a literary essay, it will be an essay that is a follow-up to a book. Students will use that book and will use the main character.
⭐️This is perfect to follow up with a reading unit on character study; I have a complete character study unit…check it out.
⭐️Any genre of fiction will work (realistic fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, etc.).
⭐️The unit starts with a “boot camp” in which the students will write a “finish the essay” practice piece; the first 2 paragraphs are written for them as a model.
⭐️There are 10 mini lessons/assignments in all: Character Traits, Essay Boot Camp, Examine the Essay, Writing Your Thesis, Intro Paragraphs, Body Paragraphs, Introducing/Citing/Explaining Quotes, Conclusion, Words Matter, Essay Checklist.
⭐️Be sure to use/edit the lesson plans; they will guide you step-by-step.
⭐️If you'd like, you could print the mini lessons for notebooks. I would do 4 slides per page in your print settings (you can do this in your "print preview").
⭐️Go through each lesson and assignment. Add your dates that you will teach and the due dates.
⭐️Links take you to a “forced copy”, which means you will simply have your own copy once you click. You can keep it as is, or you can make your copy and replace the link with your teacher's copy. I recommend doing that for the assignments so that you can grade more easily, but either way will work. You could print if you prefer.
⭐️This goes right on your Google Classroom™. You won’t believe how easy it will be to complete this unit! Since kids will not be doing the actual work on the slideshow, you can post it as a material.
⭐️At the end of the unit, there is a grading checklist so that you have an easy way to grade their essays.

Vocabulary Activities for Middle School - Choice Board
$9.99
Vocabulary activities don't have to be boring or mundane. Middle school students will love this no-prep, fully-linked vocabulary choice board! It will be a great resource all year and can be used with any vocabulary list. It's great for a weekly assignment, "fast finishers", as a center, or when you have a substitute. There are 15 choices with directions and links to activity templates.
Please note that this product does NOT provide vocabulary lists; it is to use with your class vocab lists.
Includes:
✅15 linked activities with directions and templates
✅Activities can be used and re-used with any vocabulary list
✅Digital and printable options
Here are some tips and recommendations:
⭐️Everything you need is "all in one" slideshow! Attach to your Google Classroom™ or digital learning platform. Everything is linked and ready to go; no prep required!
⭐️Although it’s not necessary, it’s nice to have index cards for the “Sorting” activity and dice. I provided a link to a digital dice roll in case you don’t have dice in your classroom for the “Roll the Dice” activity.
⭐️I recommend printing the “Fakebook” page; the rest are easily used digitally or printed.
⭐️When students click the link, it creates their own copy for them in their own drive. They can then “share” it with you electronically or print when complete.
⭐️You could also print the templates if you prefer as some kids prefer hard copies.
⭐️If you do print, they make a great bulletin board display!
⭐️Optional: I also print the slides, staple them to a file folder, and staple them to a bulletin board. Then I print copies of the templates in the folder so that kids can use printables if they/you prefer (see the thumbnail an example.). It is also fun to put good examples from students who do a good job right in the folder as well.
⭐️If you grade them, I would grade them easily…for completion and for completing all components. I suggest a score of 1-3.
⭐️It’s fun to make time to share. Students can lay them on their desk (or open their electronic copy on their device) and take a “gallery” walk.
Any questions, please email me: [email protected]
Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Activities - Collaborative Coloring Poster & Bulletin Board
$3.50
Having fun and meaningful Thanksgiving activities is always helpful. Use this collaborative poster to make a great bulletin board display as well. Kids can add what they are thankful for and add it to the poster. No prep...just print, hang, and go!
The poster reads: Feeling Thankful
Includes:
➡️24 ready to print pages
➡️Numbers on pages for easy assembling
➡️Directions for assembling
You'll need:
✅Crayons
✅Stapler
✅Bulletin board
✅Printed copies
Here are some tips:
⭐️There are 24 pieces. If you have less than 24 students, assign students who would like an extra to do so. If you have more than 24 students, you can partner some kids together.
⭐️Print this packet. Each page is separate, so it's super easy!
⭐️Be sure your printer is set to “fit to paper”. You can find that under “more settings” and then “scale”. (Note: This slideshow is formatted at 11 x 8.5, which is standard printing paper).
⭐️You can also opt to print 2 pages on 1 sheet (go to “more settings”), but you will likely have to trim the borders with a paper cutter if you do that.
⭐️Crayons are overall better than markers as they don’t smear.
⭐️You might want kids to color in the actual letters using only one color, but that’s up to you.
⭐️Have kids add what they are thankful for. You might want them to go over the words in a marker so they stand out.
⭐️Use anytime during the Thanksgiving season. I
⭐️Display! They go 6 pieces across and 4 rows down.
Any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].
Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Write the Room Writing Activity for Middle School
$3.00
It can be difficult to find the right middle school Thanksgiving writing activity. This Thanksgiving write the room give kids a fun, easy, and meaningful way to write for different purposes. The Thanksgiving writing prompts have kids move around the room and randomly select a main character, minor character, setting (place), setting (time), tone, problem, figurative language/poetic device, genre, and vocabulary related to Thanksgiving.
Here is what is included:
✅9 printable "posters" (sized 8.5 x 11), each with 6 different choices for main character, minor character, setting (place), setting (time), tone, problem, figurative language/poetic device, genre, and vocabulary.
✅Student direction page (editable)
✅Student recording page
✅Themed writing paper to write the story
✅Rubric for scoring if you'd like (editable)
✅Figurative language/poetic devices reference sheet
✅A link for digital dice is included in case you would like to use it
Here are some suggestions:
⭐️I like to print the slides and hang them around the room as posters. You can print in color, or just use black and white when printing.
⭐️The student direction slide and rubric slide are editable in case you would like to make any changes to better meet your students’ needs.
⭐️Print out a student packet with their directions, recording sheet, reference sheet, writing paper, and optional rubric. Alternatively, you could post them on your Google Classroom™ or digital learning platform.
⭐️I put kids in groups. There are 9 posters, so divide your class accordingly.
⭐️I have kids go to each poster. I provide dice at each station. Whatever they roll, they record on their recording sheet. If you would prefer, I provided a link for virtual dice.
⭐️If you don’t want them to use dice, you could just allow them to choose for each.
⭐️After they have gone to each poster station, they write their piece. You can print the paper or attach it to their digital learning platform.
⭐️I suggest giving kids a couple of weeks to work on their stories.
⭐️I have included an editable rubric for grading if you would like to use it. You could even print that as part of the student packet so they know how you will be scoring. Not scoring is also an option!
⭐️It would be great to make time to share some of their writing! They also make a great bulletin board display.
Any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].
Enjoy!

$3.00
Teaching means bulletin boards! Great bulletin board letters are needed to create your boards. You will love the little turkey images contained in each November bulletin board letter, number, and symbol. They are done in black/white/gray and can be printed on any color paper or cardstock.

Here is what I recommend:

⭐️It is best to print on colored cardstock, laminate, then cut them out.
⭐️You can also print on any type of colored paper or cardstock.
⭐️Using “fun tak” to stick them on your bulletin board will keep them fresher looking; no tack or staple holes!
⭐️You can change the “scale” when printing to adjust the size of the letters.
⭐️You could also go to “file” then “print settings and preview” and print multiple slides per page for smaller letters.
