Description

Gardening provides so many learning opportunities for kids! Although getting outside and getting hands in the dirt is great, there are so many ways to deepen their learning throughout the year, no matter what their age is!

This packet provides resources to help point your kid to learning facts about gardening and all that goes into it from the dirt to the sun! Through hands on activities, planning, and reflection, children can deepen their skills in observation, science, math, reading, and writing. This packet includes activities to do from the very beginning when you are buying plants, watching them grow, harvesting the fruit and veggies, and even into the dormant winter months. I want to encourage you to push your comfort zone and allow your kids to try things even if they fail. Kids are incredible and often exceed our expectations of what they are able to do when given the chance.

This packet includes activities, literacy recommendations, printable pages, games, and so much more!

FAQ

  • What ages are the activities for?
Many of the activities are geared for 4-8 year olds, however they are adjustable. There are suggestions throughout on how to make it more challenging for older kids or more accessible for younger kids.
  • Do I need a large garden to do these activities?
NO! These activities are very doable even if you just have one or two potted plants on your porch or windowsill. These activities can also be done by going to a local plant nursery or farm.
  • Do I need to know how to garden already?
No, although this packet doesn't directly teach how to garden. Learning a new skill along with your kids is one of the best ways to show them what a life long learner looks like.
  • Are there book suggestions to go along with the activities?
Yes! Including books and literacy into any project is important to me. Many of these books are affordable online or can be found in your local library.
  • Are there blank templates?
Yes! The games such as bingo and scavenger hunts have pre-made game cards as well as blank templates for your child to make their own!
