Creech's books have many layers and readers will find out what really motivates Jack, or any other poet, to write good poems. These reader response pages are suitable if you decide to do a whole class read aloud, a small reading group setting or if you assign the book for independent reading.
Using the reader response approach for Hate That Cat is interesting and engaging for both the teacher and the students. Students will demonstrate ideas and interpretations that the teacher has never thought of. Students are part of an active process of making meaning when reading literature.
