Description
Engaging and unique icebreaker activity for the back-to-school season! Students will love this engaging "getting to know you" activity. They'll fill in the hexagon templates with information about themselves, then make connections with their classmates. No prep...just print and go!
What's Included:
✅A linked table of contents for easy use
✅Teacher directions
✅Hexagon template with "getting to know you" categories
✅A blank, editable hexagonal slide to add your own if you wish
✅Two examples to show students how to connect and annotate
✅An editable rubric
✅An editable student direction page
You will need some materials for this project:
➡️Printed copies of hexagon slides, direction slide, example slides, and rubric (included)
➡️Scissors for each student
➡️Large butcher paper for each group
➡️Glue sticks or tape for each group
➡️Pens/markers/pencils for annotating for each group
Directions:
⭐️Put your students into groups. I recommend groups of 4-5 students per group.
⭐️Print the hexagon slide for each student. Note that there is a blank sheet of hexagons in case you would like to add your own categories (not necessary but fun to do).
⭐️Print one direction sheet for each group or post it on your digital learning platform. It is editable, so make any changes before you start.
⭐️Print the examples to hang in the class, or attach them to your digital learning platform. It will show them how to make connections and annotate.
⭐️Give each group a large sheet of butcher paper.
⭐️Have the students work independently to fill in the hexagons. Then, they can neatly cut out the hexagons.
⭐️Students should then create connections by placing the hexagons next to terms that have commonalities.
⭐️Students should annotate their connections. They can write on the butcher paper.
⭐️Have kids share! Some possibilities for sharing could be a 'museum" walk or have each student share one connection.
⭐️NOTE: You could do this as a whole class, taking turns and adding hexagons.

Enjoy!
