In my classroom…
1. KWL Chart: Initially, students take about 5 minutes to complete the KWL chart, setting the stage for the lesson.
2. Video: To kickstart the lesson, we watch the video.
3. Flip Book: As a whole class, students assemble the flip book that they will reference throughout the lesson.
4. PowerPoint: Immediately following, I show students the PowerPoint presentation. It encourages student interaction, questions, and comments.
5. Poster Display: I then read over the poster and display it in our classroom, so students can easily refer to it for visual support.
6. Word Cards: The picture/ word cards are placed in the writing center and on the board for students to reference.
7. Brochure Explanation: I give students instructions for a brochure activity. While students independently work on their brochures, I read the mini reader with my small groups.
8. Reading Comprehension: I read the reading comprehension sheet aloud to the class. Then, they independently answer the questions.
9.Collaborative Learning: Students work with partners to complete fill-in-the-blank sheets, utilizing the flip book as a reference.
10. Word Search: Students work on completing the word search as an early finisher activity. (This would also be great when there's a few extra minutes at the end of the day.)
11. Morning Work: Students use the writing prompts, writing sheets, and postcards at the start of the day.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not all completed in one day. It typically takes a week to finish all of the activities. This is just a guide that I have put together based off of what I have found works with my students. These activities could be completed in a different order.
