Description
I wrote this lesson for students that were struggling with the size of the solar system and universe. It is a hard concept to see size and distance in the millions to trillions of km.
I myself struggled with remembering the place values and the number of zeros in these large numbers until I had the students do this activity.
I showed them the video of Helen Arnie's "Googol Song" in class to give them an idea of what I was looking for.
You can grade the song and poem however you wish. I gave them a pass / fail for their presentation, but you can add a rubric for the song or poem.
