BIG IDEA PROJECT: THE IDENTITY MAP
A Personal Artwork that Creates a Visual Representation of Student Identity
An identity map is a visual representation of who a student is and what's important to them. It allows students to express these feelings in a personal way with a nearly limitless amount of flexibility. Its less of a literal 'map" in the traditional sense and more of a snapshot of each student.
Sometimes it's difficult to help students find personal meaning and ownership over their artmaking. This project is designed to help students not only improve their drawing skills but to also work on their planning and self-expression. Most students end up creating something that they genuinely love, because it is a comprehensive expression of who they are at this moment.
The assignment walks student through the process of generating ideas, creating rough drafts, making layouts, and then applying these planning steps to the creation of a finished artwork.

1. Detailed lesson plan with Sequencing that follows the PowerPoint Presentation
2. Comprehensive PowerPoint presentation
3. Instructional Handouts
4. Detailed Rubric for easy scoring
5. Student Examples
This is a longer-term secondary project that typically takes me 5-7 class periods of a semester. I have a block schedule with 120-minute classes. Depending upon your situation the pacing does allow for flexibility based upon your individual classroom needs.
