Description
Time is one of those real world concepts that many students struggle with. Since telling time involves many, many smaller skills (counting, sequencing, distinguishing hour hand from minute hand, knowing when to use the numbers for hours vs minutes, etc.), kids especially in special education have a hard time keeping up. Three levels are provided within this activity. The first level has students practice calculating the elapsed time for cooking related activities. The second level has students calculate the elapsed time for movie related scenarios. Finally, the third level has students calculate the elapsed time for job related prompts. Immediate visual and auditory feedback is given for students' choices on each card. The scenarios featured in this lesson are directly applicable to the real world and teach students the importance of knowing why calculating elapsed time is an important life skill to master. Students will enjoy it because it is relevant, age-appropriate material. You'll love it because it is a great NO PREP activity!
