Guided-reading lesson plan— plenty of fuel for discussion/instruction. Here we compare the mercantilism of England with a free market and capitalism, and discuss the principles governing these concepts. By the end of the lesson, the student should comprehend that an economic empire is different than an empire defined by land ownership.

My lesson plans employ what I call the "Rock Drill" method. Using "vertical" education, comprehension is prized before familiarity with terms. Therefore, the concepts are always part of a deeper delving via the rock drill. All my composition winds downwards and methodically penetrates ignorance, proceeding in a logical fashion that's hard to ignore.
