Description

The Metric Measurement Lab Stations are a perfect way to introduce your students to the metric system. Students will learn to correctly measure using a variety of lab tools such as graduated cylinders, thermometers, beakers, triple -beam balances and rulers. At each station students will be asked to collect a variety of data by looking at the bottom (and top) of a meniscus, reading a thermometer, massing out the weight for various objects, determining the volume for an irregular object, and measuring the area and volume of the classroom. After collecting data at each station, they will convert their answers from mL to L, g to kg, or Celsius to Kelvin.

Standards Covered:
• Learn to measure length, temperature, mass, volume of liquids and irregular solids
• Learn to operate and read a graduated cylinder, triple-beam balance, meterstick and
thermometer
• Learn to convert from mL to L, g to kg, and Celsius to Kelvin

Materials Needed:
• 4 " 6 Graduated Cylinders (at least 4)
• 5 Beakers
• 3 Hot Plates
• 3 Thermometers
• 1-3 Triple Beam Balances (at least 1)
• 1-3 Staplers (at least 1)
• 200 Paper Clips
• 2 Pens
• Metersticks/Rulers
