Description
This is a fun and relaxing activity to complete with your students anytime you are feeling your students need to bring a bit of peace into the classroom. This lesson is part of my growing mindfulness bundle for ELA classrooms. The intention of this lesson is to teach students mindfulness practices that they can use in their everyday lives.
I use this lesson in my high school English classrooms, but these lessons can be taught with any subject, grades 6-12. This lesson teaches students about the benefits of mindfulness drawing practices. First students read and annotate an article about mindfulness drawing practices. After, they complete a mindfulness drawing activity where they color in a mandala, then reflect on the process. I play soothing music when we get to the mandala practice and have students silently work so that they learn the skill of mindfulness drawing.
My students report feeling very calm and serene after this practice. They love it because it helps them get their mind off of stressors while also getting to do something relaxing during class.
This lesson includes a digital resource and a printable assignment as well. You can post the assignment to Google Classroom or another class platform, or you can print the assignment out and have studnets do the whole assignment by hand. All items were created on Google Docs. You will need to print out the included mandala portion of the assignment even if students are completing the article and questions digitally since this portion of the assignment must be completed by hand.
Included with this purchase:
Digital version of the assignment
Printable version of the assignment
Teacher key with tips and instructions
Reflective questions
Grading rubric
Printable mandala
