Do your students need extra practice solving money word problems? Teach your class how to mentally solve for how much change they will receive by using number lines with these printable task cards in both English and Spanish.
Get your class up and moving by turning this into a scoot activity! Or place the task cards in a math center for independent practice.
Here's what's included:

All task cards include a number line to facilitate mental math solving for how much change you would receive. 16 questions that have purchasing scenarios from less than 25¢ to $1.00.
Topics covered:
- Counting forward
- Using friendly numbers
- Number lines for mental math
- Solving for change in money word problems
How to use this:
- Start by modeling how to solve for change by using a number line. There are two example task cards you can use for this.
- Print and cut out the 16 task cards.
- To play the game Scoot, spread the task cards out around your classroom. You can hang them on the wall or put them on students' desks.
- Give each student a recording sheet.
- Assign students a number to start on, so your class is spread out.
- Students move around the classroom silently, solving one problem at a time, and putting their answers on their recording sheet until they've solved all 16 problems.
- To use in a math center, model how to solve the two examples, then place the deck of 16 task cards in your center for students to access independently.
