Description
This is a perfect introduction for teaching about Native Americans at a middle school level. It is an interactive lesson; you do some of the teaching, then the kids respond and do activities right on the slideshow. There is a digital and printable version included; your choice! If you choose the digital version, simply attach to your students' digital learning platform. If you print, you can use for an interactive notebook.
This is the same lesson found in my all-in-one unit, Native American Complete Unit for Middle School. That product also includes a quiz, study tools for the quiz, a final project, and a rubric for that project. If you are interested in more of a complete unit, you should check that out: Native Americans Complete Unit for Middle School. If you are interested in just the interactive lesson, then you are in the right place!
Here are some tips:
⭐️Either print or attach to your Google Classroom™ or digital learning platform, assigning each student their own copy.
⭐️Have students work on the 'do now" slide. It is fun to play Native American music (easily accessed online) as they do this.
⭐️There is a vocabulary slide. Use your judgment here…you could give them a little time at the beginning or have them do it after you are done teaching.
⭐️For the digital version, you will notice that the slides that are shaded in a gold color indicate that the student needs to do something on that slide. The rest are teacher-led direct instruction.
⭐️Review the 'I Say" requirements. This is an easy and purposeful way to have students think and respond about the material. I let a few kids share as we go along.
⭐️Begin teaching. You can project and read through the teacher slides.
⭐️For the digital version, students do work on the gold-shaded slides. I find it best to pause and let them fill that in.
⭐️This might take a couple of days to teach. Use your judgment on how to break this up in a way that works for you and your students.
⭐️The last instructional slides contain a lot of information; it is meant to give a brief overview. Don't stress over this; just review it briefly.
⭐️Assign the closure activity. It's nice to make some time to share these.
Any questions, email me at [email protected].
Enjoy!
