Description
Working with found, natural materials is a great way to challenge your students! Its also a very inexpensive project, which is just a bonus! I have done this project with middle and high school 3D students and my students loved it! Some went on to make independent sculptures using natural materials because they enjoyed the medium so much.
This 25 page PowerPoint Presentation is a full lesson, ready to present to your class. It begins with 6 modern artists who use natural materials in their work. Each artist has accompanying questions that you can ask students to journal or to have a class discussion. Next it prompts students to come up with an original idea for a sculpture. There are also questions included for students while planning. After that, you will discuss how to build an armature, how to glue, and how to build with natural materials. I've included a simple rubric or grading map and reflection questions for students to answer. Finally, there are student examples for inspiration. I hope that your students love this project as much as mine did!
