Description

Do you know a child who doesn't understand the tricky social norms of how to respect personal space? This kid is always walking too close in line, standing too close, sitting too close, and causing anxiety in others. Perhaps you have a class full of students who are always 'too close" and one little kiddo who has an enormous personal bubble that he doesn't want his friends near! Maybe you have siblings who have different size personal bubbles! How do you teach your class to respect their friend's invisible personal bubble? And how do you teach a child to advocate for himself in a kind and socially appropriate manner? These two units have stories that teach strategies for both sides of this common issue. The unit includes a personalized book to use with one child or your whole class. With matching coupons you can get the whole class, friend group, or family involved in respecting each others' space. This unit is designed for 3rd-5th grade students. We do also have a preK-2nd grade version.

This comprehensive unit includes 3 folders within a ZIP file:

Recommendations for using this unit:
INVADERS " this book is to teach a child to advocate for themselves in a kind and socially acceptable manner when they feel uncomfortable.
PROTECTORS " this book it to teach students to respect other people's space.
Personalized versions: After reading the original version, guide the student through customizing a book with their own feelings. Feel free to scribe for the child, you want their brain energy spent on communicating and processing information not on writing.
Coupons: give to any adult the child interacts with throughout the day to reinforce the goal. When a child collects a coupon, document it on the behavior contract. Or use the coupons for the whole class with your own incentive program.
Behavior contracts: use these to set goals, incentivize your students, and record data for Behavior Intervention Plans, IEP, or simply reporting to parents.
Award certificate: use to reward students for achieving their goal.
Strategy posters: post somewhere visible to remind your student even when you are not around or print 4/page, laminate, and use as personal card
