Description
Support your multilingual learners in science with this science dictionary and workbook. This resource can be used with all levels of multilingual learners! It can be used during the year or for review for end-of-year assessments like the Virginia SOL's.
Includes:
Vocabulary pages with pictures so students can write student-friendly definitions. There are extra spaces to add more vocabulary words.
Sentence pages with sentence stems and sentece frames. There is also space for students to write their own sentences.
Science topics: food webs, plants, oceans, landforms, electricity and light and sound. I will send updates when I add more topics.
Some topics include diagrams.
Suggestions:
Print the pages on the topics that your students need. Print in color if possible. You don't need to print all topics if your students are not learning those this year.
Hole-punch the pages and place them in a folder or binder.
The blank lines in the vocabulary pages are for adding extra vocabulary words and definitions. With your guidance, students should write their student-made definitions of each word.
The sentence stems are just suggestions, Students can write their own on the provided lines or just fill in the sentence stems. For newcomers or SIFE, I would have them fill out a few of the sentence stems for each topic instead of coming up with their own. They could also fill in the missing words in one or two of the sentence stems and then copy them on the blank lines for extra practice. Remember all newcomers will not have the same skills and knowledge. You know your students best.
