Description
Morning Meetings are a great Social Emotional Learning (SEL) tool to use in your classroom, and this editable one is perfect for your upper elementary/early middle school students. These February-themed slides cover the topic of Trust. SEL skills like this can build community, responsibility, and intrinsic motivation within your classroom.
Each Share slide features a question intended to get students thinking about the SEL topic of the week.
The Activity slides with either be a social-emotional activity meant to get students thinking, or a fun community-building activity/game.
Though every slide is pre-written, editable slides are included in case you aren't a fan of a day or two, or if there is an activity you want to do instead. I encourage you to write your own message that pertains to your students in addition to the quote that I have provided.
This resource is geared more toward upper elementary/early middle school, but younger students can definitely benefit from these slides as well.
Included:
-About this Resource slide for more insight
-A How to Use slide to get you started with the structure of Morning Meetings
-A Suggestions slide that may help make your Morning Meetings run more smoothly
-Google fonts to use
-7 editable slides
-Enough Greeting, Activity, Share, and Message slides for 5 days. Some of these have "Week 1" at the top, and some do not, as this is a part of a larger February resource.
How to Use:
-Every student get in a circle. It's important that every student is on the same level, so either they are ALL on the floor, are ALL standing, or are ALL in chairs. This includes the teacher, too!
-Show the students the theme of the week and discuss what it means.
-Display the Greeting slide at the beginning of your Morning Meeting. Read the directions, give an example, and have your students greet each other. It's important that each student is greeted by NAME.
-Move on to the Share slide and complete what is written or write your own with the editable slide. You will need a talking piece to pass along as each student shares, such as a ball or stuffed animal. If a student is adamant about not sharing, they can say, 'Pass." Do not push.
-Move on to the Activity slide. Some activities can be continued on to the next day. It will either be a game or an SEL activity. Every student should do the activity - no opting out.
-Lastly, move to the Message slide. I highly encourage you to use the editable slides to type a message that pertains to your students. Meaning, you can write about upcoming events in their schedule, birthday celebrations, a change in plan/routine, etc.
The topics for the entire month of February:
Week 1 - Friendship
Week 2 - Trust
Week 3 - Responsibility
Week 4 - Problem Solving
