Description

Let's talk about endorsement money in sports! Should endorsements go to the most attractive athlete or the best athlete? Think about your answer for a minute- then ask yourself if your answer would change for female athletes? In this ESL Lesson, your students will discuss sexism in sports marketing, and endeavor to explain the difference between how males and females are treated when it comes to representing brands in advertisements. Using an article discussing the discrepancy between endorsement money between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, students will be challenged to question how female athletes are marketed to the general public. In making this assessment, students will also get the opportunity to write about how influencers have changed the advertising game. Overall, this is a great opportunity to challenge your students to question how and why products are marketed to different demographics.
