Description
Social story with visual supports and step-by-step instructions on how to eat lunch at school - both for students who pack their lunch or purchase their lunch. Story is as follows with visual supports on each page:
Every day at school, we eat lunch. Lunchtime at school is different than lunchtime at home.
At school, we eat lunch in a room called a cafeteria. A cafeteria has a kitchen where you can choose your lunch items and several large tables so many people can eat at once.
Each day, I will either bring a packed lunch from home or purchase a school lunch.
If I bring my lunch from home, it will be packed in a bag or lunch box.
Once I am seated at the lunch table, I can take out my food and begin to eat.
If I am purchasing a school lunch, I may have to wait in line to get my food.
When it's my turn, I will get a tray and silverware.
Next, I can choose what I'd like to eat and drink.
There will be adults in the kitchen to help serve the food and a cashier to accept my payment.
Once I have paid for my lunch, I can take my try to my lunch table where I will eat with friends.
If I need help opening a package of food, I can ask a friend or raise my hand and wait for an adult to come over and help.
Once I have finished eating, I will need to throw away my trash in the nearest trash can.
It is important that I follow all the lunchtime rules to keep myself and others safe.
One rule may be to use my inside voice at all times so I can hear any important announcements. Another rule may be not to share my food, in case other students have any allergies.
I will always be a responsible student, especially at lunchtime. It is fun to eat lunch with my friends at school!
