Description

Engage your high school business students with this hands-on and practical Simulated Investment Portfolio Project! Designed for accounting or business courses, this digital resource provides a comprehensive and interactive experience for students to learn about the world of finance, stock markets, and investment strategies.

Your students will have $2,000 to build their very own stock portfolio. They will start with research followed by record keeping, finally moving onto tracking their portfolio over time. They will then be asked to calculate their portfolios return on investment (ROI).

Handouts included:

Teacher instructions - 2 full pages where we walk you through the process, step-by-step.
Stock Research and Selection - Your students will be tasked with listing their investment criteria, including diversification strategies.
Stock Purchase Tracker - Students will use this handout to list stocks (ticker, purchase price and number of shares purchased).
Stock Performance Tracker - This is the fun part! You will instruct students to have routine (I recommend weekly) portfolio checks. This is the part where students get to see how their portfolios are performing.
Portfolio overview - This handout is where students will input a summary of their periodic checks. Also included on this handout are critical thinking questions to get your students to reflect on the process.

Market Analysis: Students analyze the impact of market changes on their investments, connecting real-world events to portfolio performance.
Reflection and Reporting: The project culminates in a reflection and reporting phase, where students summarize their key learnings, insights, and make adjustments based on their experience.
