Description
This introductory activity is an engaging close reading and creative project to be completed after reading chapter 2 of Kelly Barnhill's The Girl Who Drank the Moon. For this project, students analyze a scene from the novel that illustrates the setting of the Protectorate. Once they have an understanding of the scene, they create a map to showcase their interpretation of setting. During this project, students first complete literary analysis questions. These questions provide students the opportunity to identify important literary devices within the passage as well as interpret their intended effect. After completing the close reading & analysis questions, students complete the creative portion of the project where they map out the setting of the story. Students enjoy this activity because they are given a lot of choice for how they would like to create their project.
