Description
This is an elementary/middle school reading passage and comprehension assessment on the history of glass. Glassmaking began thousands of years ago in Mesopotamia when people accidentally created glass while working with fire and sand. In the 19th century, modern techniques allowed for mass production. Today, glass is everywhere - from windows and bottles to screens - thanks to many centuries of innovation.
This Common Core-aligned text was written for use in Grades 4-7. It can be used in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, independent practice, absence work, homework, test prep, assessment, centers, etc).
The 'printable/no prep" resource includes:
1) An engaging 850-word informational passage titled 'The History of Glass." The text explores the ancient history and current modern uses of glass.
2) A total of 14 questions, including vocabulary and comprehension, written to align with Common Core Standards RI.4.1 and RI.5.4
3) An additional crossword puzzle for early finishers or as an alternative form of assessment.
