This is a set of reading comprehension activities about the sun and the planets that focus on cause and effect and compare/contrast. This resource is a great way to integrate science topics into your reading instruction. It can also be used to teach students how to compare information between two texts on a similar topic.
There are 9 one-page informational passages (one for each planet plus the sun) followed by a page comprehension questions that mostly focus on cause/effect and compare/contrast. Students must refer back to the text to find the answers. Includes open-response questions, graphic organizer tasks, and a few multiple choice items.
There is also a set of 16 vocabulary cards containing words from the text. These can be used to pre-teach academic science vocabulary or discuss new words as they are encountered.
This can be used along with any of the passages to compare and contrast two different planets. It's a great way for students to summarize their learning or to organize their ideas before writing a compare/contrast piece
Answer keys are included.
