Description

This is a history passage and assessment on the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, who were inventors who built and flew the world's first successful airplane in 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Their achievement revolutionized transportation and paved the way for modern aviation, and their innovation and determination in creating a controllable flying machine marked the beginning of a new era in human travel and exploration.

This text was written for Grade 4-6 students and can be used in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, independent practice, homework, test prep, assessment, sub work, centers, etc). This 'printable/no prep" resource includes:

1) An informative and engaging 1,000-word passage titled 'The Wright Brothers, pioneers of Flight." The passage is the story of the Wright brothers' life and their early attempts and final success in flying the first airplane in December, 1903.

2) A set of 28 questions, including vocabulary, sequencing, comprehension, and visual interpretation, written to align with these Common Core Informational Text Standards: RI.4.1, RI.4.5, RI.5.4, and RI.5.7

3) A crossword puzzle for early finishers or to use as another form of assessment.

4) Answers to every question.
