Description

Want to teach about the Winter Holidays Around the World? Students will learn about many celebrations, customs, and traditions that take place in December, January, and February from all over the world. In this resource, your students will learn about Hanukkah, Nochebuena, Winter Solstice, Las Posadas, Christmas, Three Kings Day, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, New Year and Chinese New Year. Students will learn through factual information, photographs, read alouds, and videos.
Students will start their virtual field trip by making predictions about Winter Holidays. Students will then build prior knowledge and make connections to the Winter Holidays. Students will then be presented with content-specific vocabulary for navigating the Winter Holidays. Students will then learn about each of the holidays listed above. Information about each holiday is accompanied by either a photograph, read aloud, or video to further illustrate or explain the information. A comprehension check is offered at the end Virtual Field Trip.
During the field trip students will:
-Learn how to make latkes with Ina Garten
-Practice a Snowy Meditation
-Listen to a Read Aloud about Las Posadas
-Listen to Read Aloud about the Legend of the Poinsettia
-Decorate their own Tree
-Watch a video from PBS Kids All About Kwanzaa
-Watch a video from the History Channel about Boxing Day
-Learn how to make King's Cake
-Watch New Years Fireworks Display in London
-Watch a video from the History Channel about Chinese New Year
There are also two final projects you can have students complete. One is a Venn diagram comparing two of the Winter Holidays and the other project is for students to draw a picture of their favorite Winter Holiday Tradition.
